This is a five‑storey tenant building in Shinagawa Ward, constructed in reinforced concrete (RC). For a site that is deep relative to its frontage, a thin‑section RC moment frame was employed to reduce column widths in one direction and thereby increase the clear internal dimensions along the frontage, improving the functional usability of the interior. The building’s distinctive structural frame is expressed in the architectural design.
In addition, by using an exterior thermal insulation system the structural mass is used as a thermal reservoir, which helps maintain a stable interior environment that is less affected by solar gain and outdoor air conditions.
The exterior insulation specification also offers the advantage of allowing the exposed cast‑in‑place concrete skeleton to be retained. Although the concrete is finished as exposed fair‑faced concrete, the building complies with the standards set forth in the Act on the Improvement of Energy Consumption Performance of Buildings.
