Located along the Chuo Main Line in Higashi Ward, Nagoya City, this project is set in an area with open sightlines. It involves the relocation of a restaurant and izakaya specializing in kushiage and gyoza, situated in a reinforced concrete mixed-use building on a corner lot recessed one block from the main arterial road, Sakura-dori.
All existing interior finishes, previously used as office space, were completely removed to return the space to a bare shell. During demolition, the exposed conditions of the floor, walls, columns, beams, and ceiling were carefully examined and incorporated as design elements. The interior design progressed in phases, responding to these raw structural surfaces.
This plan intentionally minimizes the exclusive floor area, focusing instead on a semi-outdoor space that seamlessly connects with the approach. By allowing the "outside" to intrude into the "inside," the design explores a new typology of dining space that responds thoughtfully to the surrounding urban environment.
