This is a renovation project transforming a roughly 70-year-old wooden mixed-use building, originally a shop and residence, into a café bar plus gallery (rental space). The gallery space was required to have diverse versatility as a rental venue for various events.
Through communication with the client, we recognized that addressing each use case individually would impose unforeseen restrictions on usage. Therefore, we aimed to create a space that can be flexibly adapted according to the users’ concepts.
Accordingly, the areas surrounding the rental space—namely the bar counter seating, kitchen, and even the exterior space—are designed to be highly adaptable through panels and movable furniture, allowing diverse configurations depending on user needs.
We find it intriguing to envision this local salon being utilized in ways that diverge from our original concept, embracing a multiplicity of uses.
