URBAN SILHOUETTE｜A Reinforced-Concrete Apartment Building Standing with Poise in the City｜Atelier Mana

Set within the urban streetscape, our aim was to create a reinforced-concrete apartment building that would respond to its surroundings while asserting a distinct presence of its own. With its refined form rising toward the sky, the quiet texture of concrete, and its orderly sequence of openings, the building pursues an architectural beauty that will not fade with time, within a simple composition restrained of ornament.

The building is defined by its sharp exterior, which emphasizes the vertical, and by the rich shadows that shift with the light. Recessed openings and variations in the wall surfaces create delicate expressions as they receive the sunlight, bringing the architectural contours into sharper relief as the hours pass. At dusk, the warm light spilling from within emerges against the streetscape, revealing a calm expression distinct from the building’s poised appearance during the day.

What we prioritized in the design was creating an environment where residents could spend their time in peace and comfort while enjoying the convenience of the city. Maintaining an appropriate sense of distance from the outside, while inviting in light and air, the building brings a sense of calm and ease to everyday life. As it draws a new outline within the urban landscape, this apartment building quietly accompanies the lives of its residents.
