House at the Foot of Mt. Fuji|Troom
Set amid the rich natural surroundings of a vacation-home development, the house is composed simply of two offset boxes placed on the shoulder of the existing slope and covered by a large roof. By making use of the changes in elevation across the site, the design provides a variety of settings for the clients, who live in the city, to enjoy nature with people close to them: on the north side, a covered terrace where they can take in the view from a bird’s-eye vantage point, together with a serene space with a high ceiling; and on the south side, an intimate, light-filled space that emphasizes horizontality and connects to a garden for leisurely walks.
