Introducing House in Komoro, a custom-built home example by KASA ARCHITECTS, a Architect / Design office in 2-21-2-1S Fuda, Chofu City, Tokyo

This single-story residence for a family of four—husband, wife, and two children—is situated in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture. The design capitalizes on its unique setting, with Mount Asama to the north and the distant Yatsugatake mountain range to the south. The house features a simple, single-pitched roof sloping southward, opening the interior towards the southern landscape. Given the site's exposure to the cold Asama Oroshi winds in winter, the northern windows are limited to small ventilation openings, while the house enjoys a comfortable, breezy environment during spring, summer, and autumn.

A 1.2-meter-deep eave on the south facade effectively shields the interior from the harsh summer sun. The low-height horizontal eave line imparts a strong sense of stability and lowers the building’s visual center of gravity, enhancing overall comfort. Due to the irregular, flagpole-shaped lot, the building and surrounding woodland enclose the site, transforming this recessed space into an expansive, inviting environment that harmonizes architecture and landscape.
