Although it is a short walk from the station, I vividly recall the moment I visited the site and intuitively thought, "Let's create a house of windows... and live on the second floor!" I believe the client who decided on this land must have shared the same resolve.
The street-facing area is designated as an office, and by creating a continuous space extending to the south garden, it is designed to accommodate diverse uses such as a studio, meeting space, and exhibition area.
The private living quarters are contained within a box, while the household work areas face the garden to the south, creating a comfortable zone. This was intended not merely as a functional space but as an enjoyable place to be, emphasizing the value of a pleasant stay.
On the second floor, rather than simply having a living-dining-kitchen (LDK) with a good view, the space is conceived to integrate more closely with the environment. Overlooking the Akashi Strait, half of the area is zoned as an interior living room, while the other half functions as an exterior living space.
The design embraces the mild Seto Inland Sea climate but also anticipates exposure to harsh wind and rain from typhoons and north winds at times.
I feel that living here means embracing all these conditions as part of the place. Use: Single-family residence
Structure and scale: Timber construction; two above-ground storeys
Location: Kobe City, Japan
Site area: 136.13 m²
Building footprint: 57.00 m²
Total floor area: 106.27 m²
Contractor: Alfrente Co., Ltd.
