The site was located along a main road, but once inside, it was surrounded by trees, creating a tranquil environment. There was an old main house scheduled for demolition, and on its sunlit veranda, we discussed the future home design with the client. Considering the heavily trafficked road to the north and the existing main house to the south, along with the existing garden, we proceeded with the building layout plan. Among several proposals, a single-story, L-shaped plan was finalized, offering a sense of enclosure and security. Since single-story homes tend to have longer circulation paths, the entrance was positioned centrally in the building to serve as the approach, with rooms branching out from the living area at the core. Additionally, a workspace was created along the corridor to the north, ensuring views and ventilation. The entire building is covered by a deep-eaved, single-sloped large roof, and the interior features a wooden plank ceiling and white walls that utilize the roof space, creating a gentle and calm living atmosphere. On the new home's deck beneath the eaves, a comfortable sunlit space reminiscent of the old main house's veranda is expected to provide a leisurely and pleasant time.
