This is a compact residence planned in the eastern part of Otsu City.
The client’s request was modest, seeking a space for two people to live and an inner garage, but the project evolved into a design that invites reflection on how this simple space confronts the surrounding site environment.
The space, organized along the diagonal axis of an 8.4-meter square, opens widely to the southeast. Functions are arranged relying on the large pitched roof and the atrium spanning this axis.
Both in form and plan, the symmetrical space has become an architecture with an autonomous, inherent robustness derived from its environmental context.
