Introducing Mikuri House, a custom-built home example by I Design Office, a Architect / Design office in 7-8 Honmachi, Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture

The site is located in a small, set-back residential development tucked slightly away in a quiet neighborhood. To the south, it overlooks the beautiful seasonal greenery of a shrine precinct. The layout was carefully planned to make the most of this borrowed scenery, and the main living space features ceiling-height windows spanning two ken on both its north and south sides that can be opened fully.

With the aim of creating a well-balanced building by allocating the limited budget appropriately, we devised a deep eave and sheltered space along the eaves, along with a scattering of comfortable places open to the outdoors, so that the residents could live expansively despite the compact size and enjoy an unassuming, everyday life with ease. Wooden fittings were used to ensure that the house would appear beautiful when the windows were closed, and shoji screens were installed to create an impression of a home with a soft texture and gentle light.
