This 2-bedroom house with a living, dining, and kitchen area (2LDK) is situated on an elongated east-west oriented site. In addition to the bedrooms, it features a spacious shoe closet adjacent to the entrance, as well as a pantry and a utility room next to the kitchen. A dedicated study room for remote work further enhances the functional space, ensuring a sense of spaciousness and comfort that transcends the conventional definition of a "2LDK" based solely on bedroom count.
The site faces a road on the east side and has an approximately 2-meter high slope on the west side, which is unsuitable for use as a garden or outdoor space. Furthermore, the building layout had to comply with north-side setback regulations, making the arrangement of the structure and its connection to the exterior key considerations in the design process.
Incorporating a courtyard within part of the first floor allows for a generous 24-tatami mat sized LDK that is both bright and free-flowing, creating a relaxing atmosphere without any sense of confinement. The household service rooms, essential for daily chores, are concealed to the north of the staircase yet connected in a linear sequence for efficient workflow. On the south side of the staircase, the living room and a compact workspace—suitable for children to study—are arranged. The circulation path loops around the staircase, enhancing the perception of spatial continuity and openness throughout the house.
Built-in storage shelves are strategically integrated to optimize the storage of books and other items. Taking advantage of the timing of the "Children’s Eco Subsidy," the house achieves high standards of thermal insulation (Grade 5), primary energy efficiency (Grade 6), and seismic resistance (Grade 2). This project was a comprehensive collaboration that began with land acquisition and extended through the entire homebuilding process. Detached single-family residence / two-storey timber construction
Site area: 283.42 m²
Building footprint: 77.66 m²
Total floor area (gross floor area): 118.41 m²
