Several years ago, we were consulted starting from the land search, and once a suitable site was found, the design process commenced. The site is a 150-tsubo (approximately 495 square meters) south-facing slope overlooking Mount Takao, offering ideal conditions for residential design. From this location, the exterior form was conceived to lie expansively along the earth, while the interior was designed to evoke a residence immersed in abundant natural surroundings. The client requested a building that would accommodate a family residence, a midwifery clinic operated by the wife, and an attached garage. The single-story plan was developed based on circulation considerations for these three functions, resulting in a floor plan where every room enjoys views of the Takao mountains. The sectional design takes advantage of the roof space, featuring a large gabled roof that shelters the home protectively. Surrounded by rich natural environment, the client is expected to enjoy a spacious lifestyle throughout the four seasons in this home with their family.
