House with a Kururi Loop|Archiplace
This home was designed for a dual-income couple and their child, with an emphasis on creating a sense of comfort, simplicity and naturalness, and a home that grows and changes along with the family.
The house was planned to connect seamlessly with the large garden extending to the south, creating an environment where the family can enjoy comfortable time both indoors and outdoors. It aims to be a home where people can gather, where the family can grow together, and where changes in their lifestyle can be embraced.
The defining feature of the house is the “Kururi” circulation route, which allows one to move in a loop around the double-height living room. The entire house is gently connected so that family members can naturally pass by one another and remain aware of each other’s presence as they go about their daily lives.
To support the couple’s dual-income lifestyle, the wet areas were consolidated near the kitchen, creating an efficient flow from washing and drying clothes through to storage. The home was arranged to reduce the burden of daily housework while making it easier for the family to value their time together.
A shared study for the couple was provided on the second floor. It features a desk facing the double-height space and a full-wall bookshelf, allowing them to enjoy working and reading while sensing the connection to the living room and garden. The study is also part of the “Kururi” circulation route, and the husband can enjoy working on projects on the adjacent balcony.
This is a home that grows along with the family’s lifestyle while keeping the greenery of the garden and the presence of family members close at hand.
