House Along a Greenway with Large Windows|Archiplace
This two-story wooden house stands on an irregular, flag-shaped lot with a greenway extending along its southern side. In response to the surrounding environment, the house adopts a Tudor-style exterior inspired by the design of the neighboring main house, creating a gentle sense of continuity within the streetscape.
To make the most of the generous outdoor environment despite the site’s limited conditions, the primary living spaces are arranged on the second floor. The living and dining area features large timber windows opening toward the greenway, creating an open space with long, unobstructed views. Soft natural light filters in through the vertically aligned windows, bringing the changing qualities of light and greenery indoors throughout the day.
Inside, rafters following the sloped roof are left exposed, continuing rhythmically through the space to create depth and warmth. Varying ceiling heights produce places where a sense of openness and a feeling of calm coexist.
The first floor compactly accommodates the private rooms and wet areas, while the housework circulation and storage plan are carefully organized. The contrast with the expansive spaces on the second floor gives the home a clear sense of rhythm and definition. By bringing the greenway’s scenery into everyday life, this residence carefully weaves together its relationship with the surrounding environment.
