Urban Oasis: A House with a Courtyard｜Archiplace

This home is located on a flagpole-shaped lot in a residential neighborhood in Tokyo and was designed for a family of six and their beloved dog.

Surrounded by neighboring houses, the home features a private courtyard at its center, allowing the children to play and make as much noise as they like while giving the dog ample space to roam freely. Paved with tile and seamlessly connected to the living room, dining room, and kitchen, the courtyard serves as a second living room that enriches the family’s everyday life with activities such as soccer practice and playing in the pool.

To support the family’s life with four children, a family closet that also functions as a laundry room was placed near the kitchen. The layout provides an efficient circulation path from washing to storage, helping to reduce the burden of housework. At the same time, the interior has been designed to accommodate the lives of all six family members while maintaining a calm atmosphere with a restrained sense of everyday clutter.

The floor plan also allows for future multi-generational living, while careful consideration has been given to the thermal environment, creating a home where the family can live comfortably for many years to come.
