The project is sited in a traditional residential neighborhood in Asahi Ward, Osaka. The plot fronts a public street only on one side; all other boundaries abut neighboring houses. Because houses also line the opposite side of the street, the design proceeded without providing openings on the principal façade.
The exterior cladding is Galvalume steel plate finished in black at the client's request. The cladding is executed in a long-length single-seam profile, a choice made in agreement with the client. The detailing of the sloped upper portion of the cladding is well resolved, resulting in a simple and refined presence.
The interior finishes visible beyond the steel sliding entrance door provide a deliberate contrast. The interior is organized predominantly with larch plywood, a material that reveals varied expressions as it is animated by natural light.
At times bold, at others gentle, the wood will gain depth with the passage of time. We look forward to how its character will evolve alongside the growth of the family.
