Introducing House in Tateyama, a custom-built home example by Tada Architectural Design Office, a Architect / Design office in 5-1-3-607 Shonandai, Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture

Situated within a national park in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, the site offers glimpses of the horizon through gaps in the windbreak forest visible from the windows. The expansive sky and refreshing sea breeze create a serene atmosphere. The clients, often engaged in busy daily lives, intended this residence as a retreat to enjoy the sea, spend quiet time as a couple, and deepen social connections with friends. The design philosophy focused on meticulous selection of only essential elements, eliminating any superfluous features, and pursuing an extreme minimalism in architectural expression.

With the sea stretching out to the northeast and neighboring houses closely positioned to the southwest, the building opens generously toward the northeast while maintaining a closed facade on the southwest side. The entrance doma is spaciously designed to accommodate the client’s fishing hobby, while the living area features a deep eave with a traditional wet-edge veranda. Operable partitions between the entrance and living room allow flexible spatial configurations, creating a versatile and rich living environment tailored to various needs. The roof structure is characterized by a ridge beam diagonally aligned north to south, ascending toward the south, a distinctive framework expressed internally that serves as a prominent architectural feature in the living space design. Exterior walls are clad in wood with careful attention to salt damage resistance.
