This residence incorporates an attached design atelier. It was built on a site that had long been a favored walking route. In an environment where the characteristic appearance of pine-covered beaches is gradually disappearing, we sought to preserve this essence by cladding the exterior walls with thick timber that has endured since ancient times. We intended to translate the inherent strength of this material into the structural robustness of the building itself.
To soften the visual impression, the wood is finished with a white paint. Although the overall building height is restrained to harmonize with the surroundings, spatial differentiation is achieved through variations in floor levels and ceiling heights. This approach delineates the atelier, individual private spaces, and communal areas while maintaining interconnectedness.
Lofts located at several points inside the house enhance the sense of spatial openness, while the roof balcony, multiple entrances, and lush planting foster a seamless extension to the outdoors. The staircase connecting the upper and lower levels functions as a vital element in spatial composition, featuring varied designs that contribute to the overall atmosphere.
