This small residence, located on a site at the foothills of Kitashirakawa, was designed for a client family who wished to live in harmony with a large existing tree on the property.
The site planning was not merely aimed at protecting the tree roots; the facade’s exterior walls are clad with narrow cedar lumber, chosen as a material that can express the aging of the house itself. This approach was intended to create an architecture that, over time, would blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
Through this building, a new layer of time accumulates in this place.
