This project is the renovation of our own office. The space, just under 10 tsubo (approximately 33 m²), accommodates an office area, a kitchenette, a meeting area, and a toilet. Faced with many constraints — an irregular floor plan, dispersed locations of existing services, and construction undertaken on the premise of restoring the original condition — the primary challenge was how to secure all required functional areas within a modest floor area. The design arranges two box-like volumes placed on the floor: the interior of each box serves as private space, while the exterior functions as public space. The two boxes do not extend to the ceiling, allowing visual permeability near the ceiling plane and creating a sense of depth that mitigates any sense of confinement. Because the space remains largely unified, HVAC management is also simplified. Even with numerous inconveniences and constraints, inventive design strategies can transform a space into a comfortable environment. If you are interested in the interior, please feel free to visit our office and see it in person.
