- We, an Archi-Lab. (アン アーキラボ), are a design office in which two architects, Tatsuya Adachi [a] and Dan Nabeshima [n], collaborate under the name an — meaning 'one'.
We read the place and craft a place to belong. Using the site's elements as identifying clues, we converge them toward people. "Architecture that makes you want to stay, unique to that place" — that is the kind of architecture we aim for.
We provide design and supervision services for detached houses as well as multi-unit housing, retail, offices, medical and welfare facilities, and other building types, irrespective of use, scale, or type of work (new construction, renovation, conversion, etc.).
We always strive to express the essence honestly, beautifully, and with neither excess nor deficiency. This sometimes runs counter to readily legible showiness or visual spectacle, but we believe it is important to engage sincerely with the role a building should properly fulfill and to shape what is necessary in a beautiful form.
We also believe that architecture is not created by designers alone. Through conversation and dialogue, through behavior and nuance, we pick up and give form to latent intentions that have no clear outline yet. And that form, in turn, generates new intentions. Architecture that emerges from accumulated communication and is filtered through an Archi-Lab — we wish to undertake each such project carefully and attentively.
