Introducing House in Chigasaki + Max Clean Studio, a custom-built home example by Takayoshi Nakamura Architects & Associates, a Architect / Design office in 4-26-27 Utsukushigaoka, Aoba-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa

This three-story house features a spacious integral garage that serves both as a hobby space and a place of business. Although the site is by no means large, measuring approximately 30 tsubo, the first floor accommodates a study that also functions as a storage room and office, as well as a built-in garage large enough for two cars and one motorcycle. The garage also serves as a workspace for the owner’s primary business of vehicle coating and as a repair shop.

Space has also been secured outside for one car and three bicycles, with various measures taken to make effective use of the site. As the house is located in a densely built-up residential area, the living room has been placed on the second floor, where the surroundings are more favorable. An open-to-below space has also been incorporated to bring in natural light and ensure ventilation. A bedroom is positioned adjacent to this LDK. The movable partition doors can normally be left open, allowing the bedroom and living room to function as one continuous space—a place to relax and stretch out—making it possible to enjoy a spacious layout despite the limited floor area. The third floor contains children’s rooms, a storage room, and a toilet. From the third-floor level, Enoshima can be seen in the distance, providing expansive views and a sense of openness that is difficult to associate with a residential neighborhood.
