Situated on a corner lot in a tranquil residential neighborhood that still retains a hint of the nostalgic charm of old Shonan, this residence was designed for a couple. It is a reconstruction of a house that stood for approximately 40 years, with careful consideration given to preserving the familiar landscape and memories associated with the site.
The design thoughtfully incorporates existing trees, harmonizing the dwelling with nature while adhering to a low-budget approach. Attention was also paid to the exterior wall colors to ensure they resonate with the surrounding environment. Conscious of the cultural continuity inherent in Japanese traditions, the project sought to realize an architecture befitting its place. As the planted greenery matures, the second floor offers verdant views, fostering a living memory that connects both the residents and the neighborhood.
