An apartment unit occupied by a young couple, a Java sparrow and medaka (killifish). The clients, accustomed to a concise, floor-seated way of life, felt that a single LDK (living–dining–kitchen) room furnished with a dining table and sofa had too large a volume to feel settled. By placing three discrete elements—a raised seating platform, a bedroom, and the wet areas (bathroom/kitchen)—with slight gaps between them, we created a space that conveys a human scale and a pronounced sense of depth. Materials are wood and cement, with painted finishes. Gentle light entering through the framed openings fills the interior, producing a quietly composed ambience.
