Introducing A House with a Deck Opening onto the View, a custom-built home example by AtelierMA, a Architect / Design office in 2B Yanakada Building, 3-13-2 Tabata, Kita-ku, Tokyo

A home built on an elevated site. From the surrounding area, it appears as a simple, box-shaped house, but by taking advantage of the change in elevation across the site, a large, open timber deck extends in front of the living room.

Although the LDK is arranged on the ground floor, it is at the height of the second floor when viewed from the deck, allowing the sightline to extend toward the distant scenery. Large openings create a gentle connection between the interior and exterior, bringing in light, breezes, and the surrounding landscape while creating a spacious living environment.

The bathroom is positioned adjacent to the deck so that, after bathing, the residents can immediately experience the outdoor air and scenery. Inside, a light open-riser staircase creates visual permeability and continuity throughout the space.

External blinds were installed to control the strong sunlight while adjusting the relationship with the surrounding scenery. Horizontal slit windows are set into the white, box-shaped volume, lending a quiet rhythm to the streetscape. While gently admitting light, air, and distant views, this home brings a subtle sense of expansiveness to everyday life. Total floor area: 140.77 m² (42.5 tsubo)
