A renovation that capitalizes on the views.
The residence, located on the 10th floor, occupies an exceptional location with open exposures to the east and south: to the east it overlooks the city center, and to the southwest it commands views of Mount Fuji.
In the existing plan, the entrance on the north led into a long, narrow corridor toward the south, and the vista at the far end was a wall rather than a window. The south-facing living-dining space was elongated in the east–west direction, preventing sightlines toward the landscape; along daily circulation routes the excellent views could not be experienced, which represented a significant missed opportunity.
While retaining the existing windows, we reconfigured the positions of the private rooms and the kitchen so that occupants can fully enjoy the surrounding vistas from the living spaces.
The circulation from the entrance to the shared space was shortened, and that common area now opens broadly to the view. The east-side viewing deck, which had been associated with a private room and was completely underutilized, was transformed into a space adjunct to the kitchen and can function as an outdoor room during favorable seasons.
The former kitchen and dining area, which had been set back and secluded, was opened to serve as an extension of the living room and can be enclosed as a private room when required using a movable partition.
