A place where a single artist faces what lies beyond the canvas and himself, produces a painting, and contemplates it.
It is a place that, unlike the comforts sought in a residence, is cloaked in quietude and a sense of tension.
Nothing dramatic is required there. A special light and presence exist that can only be generated in this place.
I believed this atelier should be such a place.
Indeed, the artist who captures and expresses something from the changing everyday, while sensing the mutable yet immutable—the movement of clouds, the sound of water, the gradations of green, and the passage of daylight through the day—returns to face the canvas.
