Renovation of an 80-square-meter condominium apartment built 45 years ago. Located within easy walking distance of Shinjuku, the view from the windows is almost like Manhattan. The client, who works long hours in the design field, wanted a space where they could switch off completely after returning home from work and relax their tired body.
As the apartment occupies the top floor of the building, it has high ceilings. To preserve the dynamic quality of the space as it was, concrete beams, white walls, and gray-toned flooring were selected. The distinctive flooring is WoodOne’s Combit Craft Oak Rustic. The movable wall-mounted shelves display works created by the client’s friends.
The arched living room frame is existing; it had to be retained because the surrounding walls were structural. The blue of the entrance door and the green on the toilet walls are colors selected from among COLORWORKS’ more than 1,000 options.
The bathroom was designed as a simple space with a mortar finish and no unnecessary objects. Greenery is suspended from the ceiling to create a soothing atmosphere. Anticipating that the apartment’s convenient location would attract many of the client’s friends, the kitchen was kept simple and easy for anyone to use. The counter facing the living space also makes working in the kitchen more enjoyable. Against the monochrome backdrop, colorful objects and greenery stand out beautifully.
