House F in Hodogaya｜Takayoshi Nakamura Architects & Associates

A house planned on a lot within a newly developed residential neighborhood on the outskirts of Yokohama. While taking advantage of the views from the elevated site, the design carefully balances a sense of openness with privacy. A workspace was incorporated into one corner of the LDK, allowing the residents to work in design from home while raising their children. Although the house is not large, the floor plan provides long-term flexibility by using the loft—which can also serve as a play area for the children—as a buffer space, allowing the home to accommodate a design studio-style SOHO office if needed in the future.

Although the elevated site is subject to considerable wind pressure, the use of NISK Board (metal insulated sandwich panels) as the structural substrate for the roof and walls eliminates the ventilation cavity that is essential in conventional timber construction. This reduces both the thickness of the assembly and the number of construction processes while providing excellent seismic resistance, wind-pressure resistance, fire resistance, thermal insulation, and constructability. The house has been certified as a Long-Term Quality Housing.
