A House with a Lush Green Atelier|Archiplace
This home with an attached atelier was designed for a couple who work in design. Although located in a residential neighborhood in Tokyo, the site enjoys lush greenery to the south, and incorporating this favorable setting into daily life was a central consideration.
On the first floor is a simple, modern ceramic atelier inspired by the studio of British ceramic artist Lucie Rie. In front of the atelier is a garden reminiscent of the French countryside, where the couple can enjoy gardening.
The second floor, which serves as the center of daily life, places the bedrooms and wet areas to the north and the LDK to the south. A circulation route loops around the central void, gently connecting the home with the atelier and garden.
From the LDK, a deck terrace projects toward the greenery and continues down to the garden via a spiral staircase. This home nurtures a rich daily life in which creative work and everyday living, as well as the interior and garden, are naturally interconnected.
