Circular Courtyard|Troom
This is a plan for a vacation house standing atop a small hill in Hayama.
The site is surrounded by cliffs on all four sides and offers particularly expansive views of the mountains to the north. A bent reinforced-concrete structure was therefore positioned with its back to the road, and a single-room living space was planned above it beneath a mono-pitched roof opening toward the north.
The large bathhouse, projecting from the main volume, connects directly to a swimming pool and a pond with a flowing channel designed for raising river fish, creating a continuous waterside landscape. On the west side, a low-slung arbor was positioned using the change in level within the courtyard, gently enclosing the circular courtyard formed at the center. This is a house designed to enjoy a variety of views centered around the courtyard.
