The site is generously spacious, and to the west beyond the rural landscape the ridgeline of Mount Nijō is beautiful.
On the other hand, strong winds descend from the mountain.
The client, having moved from high-rise living, sought a lifestyle closer to nature.
Responding to the natural environment, the design explores opening and closing, approaching and distancing—seeking a comfortable sense of spatial separation.
Three square roofs, large and small, traverse the site diagonally, creating expansive interiors and a variety of exterior spaces.
In a stable, secure residential environment, one can unexpectedly glance back and see Mount Nijō; that is the kind of life we envisioned. Structure: Timber
