- When I was in kindergarten or early elementary school, I attended some sort of event at the Ehime Prefectural Hall in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture — a building with an appearance like a landed UFO (it no longer exists). Although I was very young at the time, I still vividly remember being deeply moved by the suspended lighting from the domed ceiling and the dynamic spatial composition. I believe that that feeling of wonder became a primal image and one of the reasons I chose this profession.
Whether designing a residence or a commercial establishment, I regard architecture as the creation of space. Within everyday life, the interplay of light and shadow produced by space, and its three-dimensional, dynamic composition, can move us and transform ordinary actions into unforgettable memories. I aspire to create buildings that inspire the people who inhabit them — especially children. I aim to design homes and buildings that enable moments of beauty and emotional resonance in daily life: views framed by windows, patterns of light and shade, a pleasant breeze, scenes that foster lively conversation.
