House in Koshigaya

Mochizuki Architectural Atelier
The site is a corner lot at the intersection of two streets close to the station; the design responds to both street-faced visibility and privacy considerations. Rather than incorporating the surrounding context, the plan creates an internal courtyard as a residual space within the lot to admit light, ventilation and greenery. Private rooms, storage and wet areas are located on the first floor, with the living, dining and kitchen arranged on the second floor; the ceiling leaves the structural rafters exposed beneath the roof. A Shimatone-riko (Japanese ash) is planted in the courtyard, and, together with the residents’ interiors and a home theater, the individual rooms are interconnected via the courtyard.

House in Fukushima

Abax Architects
This residence is sited on a plot in Fukushima Ward, Osaka, with a narrow street frontage and bounded on three sides by tall office buildings and apartment blocks. The exterior walls are clad with Solido from KMEW. By employing 6 mm phosphated steel plates for the balcony coping and the under‑eaves trim, the detailing is resolved cleanly and without visual discordance.

+UMI — Renovation Design Contest Jury Special Prize / TDY Remodel Smile Works Contest (TOTO) Excellence Award

YIA Ishiue Yoshihiro Architectural Design Office
A large deck facing the Seto Inland Sea was introduced so the sea is always perceptible just beyond the interior floor. A sloped lowered ceiling with integrated indirect lighting and a curtain box frames smooth sightlines toward the sea. The kitchen is positioned at the center of the living area to allow cooking while conversing in an open-plan arrangement. A former Japanese-style room was converted into a theater room; when opened, it produces a continuous, dynamic space expressed through a simple design.

House M/M

Yoshihara Tamaki Architectural Design
On a corner site fronting a school route with heavy traffic, we pursued corner‑lot relief after addressing building‑coverage ratio limits and narrow‑site consultations, and planned to maximize site utilization by composing volumes that enclose a central courtyard. The north–south‑divided volumes place the living area to the south and the bedrooms and workspaces to the north; the courtyard channels daylight and breezes and links the rooms. Directly accessible from both the entrance and the living room, the courtyard functions as an extension of the private interior—shielded from public view—and is designed to accommodate elements such as a tent or a pool.

White House

Far East Design Lab.
A residence for a family of four that balances the openness characteristic of suburban neighborhoods with the need for privacy. By placing a daylight-filled stairwell at the core, the floors are softly connected and each level enjoys bright spaces with a close relationship to the sky while minimizing views from the outside. A roof balcony on the third floor allows for kitchen gardening; the first floor includes a fully sound-insulated theater room that doubles as a guest bedroom. The vertical and horizontal composition and window placement combine to realize both openness and comfortable private spaces.
