Contemporary design is an architectural approach that pursues refined spaces without being confined to a specific style, flexibly integrating contemporary lifestyles, materials, and technologies. It eschews excessive ornamentation without becoming overly sterile, judiciously combining natural materials and industrial products to maintain a balance between function and aesthetics. The architectural practice values a lasting universality while adapting to shifts in the era, proposing spaces that are responsive to the lifestyles of their inhabitants.

The first floor is designated for commercial tenancy and the second floor for residential use. A spacious living room with an adjoining, expansive terrace is conceived as an outdoor living area. At the client’s suggestion, the large open volume is realized through the use of distinctive materials.

The site occupies a corner of a cul‑de‑sac one lot removed from an arterial road, in a relatively dense residential context. A single‑storey house stood to the south, so it was necessary to secure daylighting from the east and by additional means. The entrance, LDK and staircase are unified by the warm materiality of red cedar. Each private room adjoins this grouped space, allowing the family atmosphere to be sensed.

This residence thoughtfully preserves and incorporates existing furniture, lighting fixtures, garden stones, and planting, carefully composing places for both inhabitants and their belongings. The living, dining and kitchen (LDK) is positioned at the center, with private rooms arranged around it; alcove-like small spaces gently connect these areas to create subtle gradations of privacy. Through a spatial configuration in which old and new elements coexist, the design links memory and the future, realizing a home where nostalgia and contemporaneity are harmoniously balanced.
