Homes Featuring Traditional Tea Rooms
A home with a tea room provides a quiet space for mindfulness, connecting with nature and seasons through the art of tea. Incorporating tatami mats, shoji screens, alcoves (tokonoma), and low entrances (nijiriguchi) creates quiet elegance through simple materials. Sightlines to gardens and stepping-stone paths (roji) elevate the journey to the tea room as much as the ceremony itself. Modern designs can adapt tea rooms into versatile Japanese-style retreat spaces. We introduce tea-ceremony homes that value quiet moments and seasonal appreciation.
House Built on a Sloped Site
A home on a sloped site makes direct use of the elevation differences of the land, making it attractive to create a three-dimensional space different from ordinary flat land. By changing floor heights along steps, providing split levels, semi-basements, or open terraces, the shape of the site leads to a unique floor plan. It is also possible to adopt lifestyles utilizing the undulations of the land, such as capturing views from high places or setting up gardens in low places. Rather than forcibly changing the terrain, carefully thinking about the relationship between slopes and architecture creates scenery unique to that location. This introduces a sloped-site home that turns elevation differences into the charm of architecture and lives together with the terrain.
