Forever Home|Introduction to Architecture Firms|A Home for Enriching Life's Later Years
Author: Qurasuki Editorial Department
A final residence is a dwelling designed with the later stages of life in mind — a home where one can continue to live safely and comfortably for many years. Barrier-free fundamentals form the core of the design: step-free floors, reinforced wall backing to facilitate the installation of handrails, corridor widths and sanitary layouts that accommodate wheelchair use, and other accessibility provisions. Equally important are adaptable floor plans that anticipate future changes in physical ability and spatial arrangements that allow caregivers to move and work efficiently. Yet a final residence should not be defined by function alone; aesthetic qualities that bring daily comfort and joy are also essential. Here we present an architectural practice that designs homes to support a fulfilling and dignified later life.
