Viewed from the living room toward the dining room; the door at the rear leads to the entrance hall.

Shimogamo House — Condominium Renovation with Terrace｜Kitchen

The private rooms have a different character from the main room, with their walls and ceilings finished in white.

Light fixtures are integrated between the timbers that make up the roof.

Beyond the garage and approach lies the terrace space, with the residential wing further beyond.

The glazed door was adapted and reused from a door that had previously been installed at the entrance.

The earthen-floored space forms a continuous sequence extending to the entrance and staircase area at the back.

Shimogamo House — Condominium Renovation with Terrace｜Dining Area

Floors: cedar flooring. Walls: lime-plaster intermediate coat finish. Ceiling: painted with exposed beams.

Most interior fittings were refurbished and adjusted before being reused. The now‑rare frosted glass features a maple motif.

The two-level roof on the second floor is left exposed inside as it is.

The 30 cm difference in level between the living room and the existing Japanese-style room is connected by a generously deep step.

Along the street, lighting and openings are restrained to make life inside less visible.

From the Japanese-style room, the living room and the gardens to the south and north are connected, allowing the breeze to pass through.

Entry staircase

The raised window sill created by lowering the floor brings a sense of calm to the living room.

Each unit displays subtle variations in design reflecting successive additions and the tastes of past occupants.

Entrance detail. A rare solid lauan framed door was repaired and reused.

Entrance earthen‑floored area. The storage room at the front is also accessible from the living room, creating a convenient circulation route.

The stepped floor adjacent to the staircase serves as seating for visitors and a display area for motorcycles.

East elevation. The first floor is a garage.

The workspace has no partitions, with columns defining the different areas.

Villa by the Takano River｜Dining Area

A streetscape where modern buildings and old tiled roofs coexist. Nagaya units are renewed sequentially as tenants move in and out.

By retaining the frame of the existing plan, the spatial sensibilities of a contemporary studio and an old machiya coexist.

Mountain Villa with a Large Tree｜Exterior

We cleared weeds and debris to restore the tsubo-niwa; aluminum sashes were removed and replaced with wooden fittings.

Eaves with ceramic tile roofs line both sides of the narrow street—an urban fabric that dates back to the prewar period.
